UCG’s Field Manager on the ground in Tuvalu
UCG has kicked off our project of Survey & Design for FTTH in Tuvalu with our Construction Manager Jamie Wakelam heading to the island & linking up with the Tuvalu Telecom Corporation “TTC” team as well as World Bank representatives. Tuvalu is an island in the South Pacific about 1,000kms north of Fiji. Its 9 islands comprise small, thinly populated atolls and reef islands with palm-fringed beaches and WWII sites.

In a busy 2 weeks in Tuvalu, Jamie & the TTC team have been getting increasingly familiar with current telecommunications infrastructure which will be utilised as part of the optic fibre role out & have surveyed all duct routes, geo tagged all pits, measured up the exchange & identified all end user premises and their lead ins. All information is synced back daily to UCG’s Network Architect, Antony Casimaty & Technical Solutions Specialist, Ronnie Jespersen who have been leading the completion of high-level designs & confirming the architectural plans for detailed designs & construction.

Jumping ahead, the infield team put the high-level designs into practice by completing the first pit to pit haul of the duct assembly. The extensive surveys done to date places us in a very good position to create the detailed designs. UCG’s Programme Manager Sean Connor keeps our valued Tuvalu & World Bank representatives up to date in the weekly governance meeting.

Next stop for UCG’s boots on ground is the Pacific Island of Kiribati.
