We are proud to announce that Opticomm has engaged Universal Communications Group (UCG) to provide an end-to-end turnkey deployment of the NSW Regional Digital Connectivity Program, with the contract being executed in mid-September 2022.

Under the program, the NSW Government has awarded Opticomm the upgrade of three communities as part of the Gig State project. The build consists of a high-speed fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP) network servicing over 1300 premises across the locations of Wamboin, Bywong and Sutton in New South Wales. It will be installed via a customised rural air blown fibre architecture, which has been developed by UCG. The project will deliver improved internet connectivity outcomes for this regional community, who are largely currently on satellite internet services.

As part of this engagement, Opticomm is required to provide backhaul connectivity from one of the two state-based points of interconnect (POIs) to support the build of the new FTTP network at the Project Sites, inclusive of head-end construction and commissioning, fibre roll-out and customer connections for each of the Project Sites.

This architecture is scalable, and permits Opticomm to expand the footprint where, and when, necessary for infills and future subdivision connections.

UCG is a leading supplier of network design, construction, operations, maintenance and project management services. The company works closely with Australia’s and New Zealand’s largest telecommunications operators to optimise the performance of their existing and planned infrastructure and to ensure that deployments are delivered fit for purpose and future-proofed. This project will combine UCG’s expertise and experience in the deployment of the network.

This recent announcement is an exciting opportunity for UCG as it continues its growth strategy to build and operate communications networks for its clients beyond the traditional telecommunications industry.

Tony Scanlan, UCG’s General Manager Australia, said:

“I am very excited to be part of this initiative, combining the expertise from across the UCG Group in the design and construction of this new network which will provide a improved connectivity and a future-proof network for the community”.
